Course Description
This course provides participants with a foundational knowledge of data privacy, particularly in the Philippine context. Anchored by the Data Privacy Act of 2012, it also touches on key topics featured in relevant issuances of the National Privacy Commission (NPC). It offers aspiring data protection officers and privacy practitioners with a clear blueprint from which they can build a sound and effective privacy program. Content-wise, DP Fundamentals is the equivalent of the now-defunct DPO ACE I course of the NPC, and serves as a springboard towards LIGHTS’s more advanced courses, Data Privacy Skill Building and Data Privacy: Special Topics, which will be available this year.

Payment must be made on or before March 21, 2024 (3pm).
Only those who pay on or before the given deadline will be allowed to attend.
No refund is allowed beyond March 22, 2024 (3pm). You may, however, attend the next scheduled OLS: Data Privacy Fundamentals.
For an OLS to proceed, at least ten (10) participants are required. If the number is not met, the OLS is reset to the next tentative schedule for the training (some time in May or June 2024). Participants can also choose to avail of a full refund.

LIGHTS OLS: Fellowship
LIGHTS personnel consider their work on privacy and data protection both a noble profession and a worthy advocacy. It is for this purpose that they engage in numerous projects and initiatives pro bono or with little to no remuneration involved.
In line with this, LIGHTS allocates two (2) slots for all its online learning sessions to budding privacy advocates who do not have the resources to afford high-quality capacity building opportunities. Those chosen will be regarded as LIGHTS OLS Fellows.
The aim is simple: to increase the number of capable privacy advocates so as to facilitate the growth of a more rights-respecting information society.
